Plain-language summary of the cookies runtruffle.com sets, how long they live, and how to change your consent at any time.
Effective Date: 2026-05-22 · Last Updated: 2026-05-22
A cookie is a small file placed on your device or browser that allows us to recognise and remember your preferences, helping us personalise and improve your experience on our website.
When you visit runtruffle.com, we automatically collect personal information through cookies and similar technologies. Some are essential for the website to function and cannot be switched off. For others, such as those used to show you targeted ads or to measure traffic, you have choices about how they are used. This page lists every cookie we set, what it does, and how long it lives.
For the broader context around how we process personal information — including the legal bases, sub-processors and your rights — see our Privacy Policy.
1. Managing your consent
When you first arrive on the site, a banner asks you to accept, decline or customise the optional cookies. You can change your mind at any time:
- Click the link in the page footer or use this button — the banner reopens with your current choices pre-selected.
- Clear the
zds-klarocookie in your browser's developer tools to reset all consent decisions. - Use your browser's built-in cookie controls to block specific cookies or all cookies.
2. Cookies we use
The list below is exhaustive — if a cookie is not listed here, we do not set it. Some entries are pattern-based (e.g. _ga_*) because Google Analytics 4 derives the cookie name from your property ID.
2.1 Strictly necessary (always on)
These cookies are required for the site to function. They never collect personal data for marketing purposes. You cannot disable them through the consent banner, but you can block them via your browser settings (the site may break).
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
lang | runtruffle.com | Remembers your language preference (en / de / es) so we don't re-detect on every visit. | 90 days | First-party |
zds-klaro | runtruffle.com (Klaro!) | Stores your consent decisions for the categories below so we don't re-prompt on every page. | 365 days | First-party |
nova_session | runtruffle.com (/admin/ only) | Editor session for logged-in content editors. Not set for regular site visitors. | Session | First-party |
nova_token | runtruffle.com (/admin/ only) | Editor authentication token for content editors. Not set for regular visitors. | Session | First-party |
2.2 Analytics (opt-in)
Set only when you accept "Analytics" in the consent banner. These cookies help us understand which pages are useful, where traffic comes from, and how to improve the site. IP addresses are anonymised and we do not enable Google Signals, ad-personalisation or cross-device tracking.
Two providers run in this category: Google Analytics 4 for aggregate traffic statistics, and Microsoft Clarity for session recordings and heatmaps. Clarity's own cookies are set by clarity.ms and bing.com, which is why several of the entries below are Microsoft domains rather than ours.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics 4 | Distinguishes unique visitors with an anonymous client identifier. | 2 years | Third-party |
_ga_<PROPERTY_ID> | Google Analytics 4 | GA4 session-specific identifier scoped to our property. The <PROPERTY_ID> suffix is unique to our GA4 container. | 2 years | Third-party |
_gid | Google (legacy Universal Analytics) | Daily user identifier used by some GTM-loaded legacy tags. May not be set if only GA4 fires. | 24 hours | Third-party |
_gat | Throttles the request rate to Google Analytics to prevent overloading the service. | 1 minute | Third-party | |
_gcl_au | Google Ads | Conversion-tracking click identifier used by the Google Ads tag. Only set if you accept analytics + we are running a Google Ads campaign. | 90 days | Third-party |
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Persists the Clarity user ID and preferences, so repeat visits are attributed to the same pseudonymous ID. | 12 months | First-party |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Connects multiple page views by the same visitor into a single session recording. | 24 hours | First-party |
CLID | Microsoft Clarity | Identifies the first time Clarity saw this browser on any site using Clarity. Not set on every visit. | 1 year | Third-party |
ANONCHK | Microsoft (Clarity / Bing) | Records whether MUID is passed to Microsoft's advertising cookie ANID. Clarity does not use ANID, so this is always set to 0. | 10 minutes | Third-party |
MR | Microsoft (Clarity / Bing) | Flag indicating whether MUID should be refreshed. | 7 days | Third-party |
MUID | Microsoft (Clarity / Bing) | Identifies unique browsers visiting Microsoft properties. Microsoft uses it for site analytics and operational purposes. | 13 months | Third-party |
SM | Microsoft (Clarity) | Used to synchronise MUID across Microsoft domains. | Session | Third-party |
SRM_B | Microsoft (Bing) | Browser identifier set by Bing when Clarity synchronises with Microsoft's advertising domains. We do not read it and it is not part of our own analytics. | 13 months | Third-party |
2.3 Marketing
The marketing category covers conversion tracking for the two ad platforms we run: Google Ads and Reddit Ads. Both measure whether a visitor who clicked one of our ads later signed up for a trial or purchased a plan — used for ad-spend optimization, not for re-marketing or behavioural profiling. These cookies only load when you actively accept the "Marketing" category in the consent banner.
| Cookie | Provider | Purpose | Duration | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
test_cookie | Google (DoubleClick) | Set by DoubleClick to confirm that the visitor's browser accepts cookies. Required by Google Ads to function. | 15 minutes | Third-party |
__gads | Google (DoubleClick) | Used by Google to register and report on website ad impressions and visitor interactions with ads. | 13 months | Third-party |
__gpi | Google (DoubleClick) | Used by Google to deliver ads or retargeting content based on previous visits and to limit the number of times an ad is shown. | 13 months | Third-party |
IDE | Google (DoubleClick) | Used by Google DoubleClick to register and report on user actions after viewing or clicking one of our ads, with the purpose of measuring ad effectiveness. | 13 months | Third-party |
_gcl_aw | Google Ads | Stores the Google-Click-Identifier (gclid) when a visitor arrives via a Google Ads click; used to attribute later conversions to the originating ad. | 90 days | First-party |
_gcl_dc | Google Ads | Stores the DoubleClick Click ID for cross-device conversion attribution. | 90 days | First-party |
_rdt_uuid | Reddit Ads | Pseudonymous identifier set by the Reddit advertising pixel. Lets Reddit attribute a later signup to the ad click that brought the visitor here. Set on our own domain, read by Reddit. | 3 months | First-party |
3. Local storage and similar technologies
In addition to cookies, our site uses your browser's localStorage for a small number of preferences that never leave your device:
sx-consent-v1— only on sister-propertysxfestival.com; not set on runtruffle.com.truffle.currency— was historically used for the manual currency toggle. The toggle was removed in May 2026 (currency is now country-locked), and this key is no longer written, but legacy values may persist on returning visitors.
You can clear these from your browser's developer tools (Application → Local Storage) at any time without affecting site functionality.
4. Third-party services
When you accept Analytics, our site loads Google Tag Manager, which in turn loads Google Analytics 4, and the Microsoft Clarity tag. When you also accept Marketing, the Google Ads conversion-tracking tag (AW-18223191995) and the Reddit advertising pixel load in parallel. The data we send is anonymised (no IP retention) and processed by:
- Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland (data controller for EU traffic across GA4, Tag Manager and Google Ads). Practices documented at policies.google.com/privacy.
- Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd., One Microsoft Place, South County Business Park, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, Ireland — session recordings and heatmaps via Microsoft Clarity. Practices documented at privacy.microsoft.com/privacystatement.
- Reddit, Inc., 303 2nd Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA — conversion measurement for Reddit ad campaigns. Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and Reddit's standard contractual clauses. Practices documented at reddit.com/policies/privacy-policy.
5. Changes to this Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time when we add or remove cookies, change retention periods, or switch tooling. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes are also reflected in the consent banner so you can re-confirm your choices.
